wave's Co-operatives Fortnight networking lunch

Co-operatives Fortnight (19 June - 3 July) is a national campaign calling for people to do things differently. The initiative is being organised by Co-operatives UK and wave are being used as a case study.

We launched the fortnight locally by hosting a networking lunch at our offices in the Creative Media Centre in Hastings on 18 June, where we shared the secrets of our co-operative success with other creative businesses. Also celebrating the fortnight are two other Hastings co-operators; Trinity Wholefood and the Woodcraft folk. We are all getting together to deliver co-operative play sessions in three local primary schools (All Saints, Hastings, St Thomas's, Winchelsea and St Peters and St Paul, Bexhill) over the next 14 days, so fingers crossed!

War on Want

War on Want

wave are excited to be selected by War on Want to design and produce a range of fundraising and campaign materials. Our first project has been to develop the design of all War on Want's reports and to design a call to action insert, centred on their campaign against the human rights abuses suffered by Palestinians under Israeli Occupation. Featuring the striking War on Want trademark red and black scheme, and a case study to underline the human suffering, the insert is going out in the next issue of Amnesty magazine.

We are also working on War on Want's new membership leaflet and Face2Face material.

 

Greener Together launched

April 2010

greener togetherThe Greener Together website designed by wave and developed by co-op web is launched! Commissioned by Co-operatives UK, as part of the Defra funded Greener Living project, the challenge is to get 50 committed co-operatives or community-owned enterprises across the UK to work with their members and customers - more than 3,600 people - to pledge to reduce their CO2 emissions by 10-20% in key areas within the next 6 months.

wave is already signed up as a participating organisation and David, our nominated eco-operator. This is a cause close to wave's heart and we are really proud of our design work for the site, and also to act as a local champion for co-operative members in the South East. It's the small steps that matter, and we are working hard to make them count.

WaterAid  New year campaignDiscovering the Arctic is a brand new website featuring a host of engaging resources including original video, photography and multimedia activities, and aiming to provide GCSE students with an exciting tool for studying the consequences of climate change.

Students are guided around some of the coldest places on earth by the people who live and work there, including scientists, tour guides and the Captain of an icebreaker.

As with our award-winning website Discovering Antarctica, this site is an interactive educational resource for schools produced with the Royal Geographic Society, who in turn partnered with the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), the British Antarctic Survey, and the Scottish Association for Marine Science.

Wave conceptualised and designed the entire site including the Flash activities and graphic assets. The site is hosted with a 100% solar powered internet service provider.

Let's Get Greener Together

Winter 2009

Not only have we designed Co-operative UK's Greener Together - the co-operative way website, but we have also signed up to take part in this ambitious project to help our members become greener. Over the next six months members will be aiming to reduce their CO2 by at least 10%. To see how well we do, watch this space!

Our unique illustration shows many of the lifestyle changes and choices we may consider as we try to reduce our carbon footprint. Planned for the site will be profile pages giving ongoing feedback as to how everyone is doing and helping each other.

 

WaterAid wishes UK Prime Minister a Happy 'loo' year

WaterAid  New year campaignOn the 15th January WaterAid hand-delivered a giant Happy 'loo' year card designed by wave to the UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown to remind him to prioritise sanitation and water as his new year's resolootion.

The card, which is signed by hundreds of WaterAid supporters, features a colourful assortment of pictures on the back and the front of the card collected for the Loo've been framed campaign.

We certainly had a giggle looking through all the photos that were sent to us. All featured a keen campaigner and their toilet!

Cabinet Papers site nominated for award

Winter 2009

Last summer we were commissioned to design the National Archives Cabinet Papers website. We've just discovered that the site has been short listed for the BETT awards under the category Digital Collections and resource banks.

The interactive map is the 7th most visited page with over 12k views for the year. Apparently, the selection process is very rigorous and technical, no more than two minor faults are tolerated.

 

No ROLL BACK for GMB members at Asda!

Winter 2009

GMB Christmas CampaignFollowing a meeting with the GMB at the TUC Congress this year, wave were commissioned to work on their Christmas campaign.

The campaign was to encourage the Chief Executive of ASDA to pay all GMB members at ASDA the full rate for the Christmas Bank holidays.

We decided to incorporate the ROLL BACK Asda slogan into the campaign and created postcards, stickers and a giant christmas card that was then presented to Andy Bond (Chief Executive of Asda).

The result? Asda have agreed to pay all GMB members at Asda the full premium rate over the holiday season. Fantastic news!

We are now working with GMB on their other member materials.

 

The Pink Ladies

Autumn 2009

Cake bakersPink isn't the only colour - but it was the only colour for cakes on sale at the Creative Media Centre last week. To mark Breast Cancer Awareness month, members of wave baked pink (and fattening) cakes to sell - and some even dressed to match the cakes.

Over £50 was raised to go to Breast Cancer Care - with thanks to all those who contributed, and to Adele and Linda for selling them at the CMC reception.
