Discovering Antarctica
Discovering Antarctica is an educational website for the Royal Geographic Society and British Antarctic Survey.
The site is aimed at geography teachers and students and features a wide range of themes to utilize and investigate both in classroom learning and in independent coursework.
Each section comes with downloadable factsheets, multimedia interactives, and images to challenge and inspire and includes topics on climate and environmental change, the future of the continent, international politics, current scientific research and tourism.
Features include:

- movie and sound clips, including specially commissioned speech recordings
- QTVR panoramas
- online image library
- dedicated teachers area providing notes, relevant curriculum links
and top tips for using website activities on an interactive whiteboard
and in the classroom
Discovering Antarctica was also our first solar powered website!
In 2007 the site was nominated for both a BAFTA and a WEBBY, and was awarded a "highly commended" by the Geographical Association.
